The Women’s World T20I champions Australia will be taking on former champions the West Indies’ women’s team in the second match of the T20I series with the second game being held at the Kensington Oval, Barbados.
Match Details:
Date- September 17, 2019
Time- 4:30 AM (IST)
Venue- Kensington Oval, Barbados
The two sides have had a bit of history with the Windies women beating Australia in the finals of the 2016 T20 World Cup, while the Australian women came back hard in 2018 edition of the tournament and beat West Indies in the semi-final round to eventually lift the title that year. Windies are currently toiling once again as Australia beat them by six wickets to spare in the first T20I
The West Indies women’s team look slightly depleted with some of their big names missing the ODI series versus the Aussies which led to a 3-0 whitewash in favour of the Australians.
Weather Report:
The game is expected to take place without much or any rain interruption at all. Barbados is expected to be sunny for the majority of the day, although there are indications of light showers two hours prior to the match, the chances are marginal and a full-length T20I can be expected.
Pitch Report:
The pitch is expected to be good for batting, but Windies failed to capitalise on that in the first T20I against the Aussies as they were restricted to 106 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.
Australia chased down the total with ease, and with the quality, the Australian women’s team have in their display, Windies will have to score a lot more in order to ensure authority.
Team News West Indies Women:
No injury update from the West Indies Women camp as of now.
Team News Australia Women:
Britney Cooper comes in place Kycia Knight who sustained an injury to the lower back in the first ODI versus Windies women.
Players to Watch out for:
Wicket-keeping batter, Alyssa Healy remains the top pick as she’s had fond memories of playing T20I Cricket in the Carribean. In the Women’s World T20I 2018, Healy scored 225 runs in just five innings with an average of 56.25, and a strike rate of 144.23.
Out of those five innings, Alyssa Healy received the Player of the Match award in four games and was ultimately rewarded the Player of the Tournament award as well.
The Aussie skipper, Meg Lenning is another player who’s as explosive as can be with two centuries and 19 fifties in the T20I circuit with a strike rate of 118.57 and a batting average of 37. Lenning scored a run a ball 54 in the first T20I while remaining unbeaten as she helped Australia in getting a 1-0 lead.
For the West Indies Women’s side, Stefanie Taylor will be expected to go all-out attack as she’s done ever so frequently in the past. With 21 fifties in 98 matches, while also claiming 84 wickets in the process, Taylor is definitely one player the Aussies would vary of. Ashleigh Gardner and Ellyse Perry can chip in with a crucial wicket or two and some vital runs in the middle order.
