Fans across the world are eagerly waiting for the biggest T20 extravaganza in the world. The BCCI is still playing the waiting game on the next edition of the IPL due to countrywide lockdown. The IPL is mostly considered as the batsmen territory as the fans come in large numbers to watch the rain of boundaries. However, there are a few bowlers who have proven tough nuts to crack over the years. To recognise the bowlers’ contribution, the bowler with the most wicket in the season is awarded a purple cap. Let’s try to predict who will win the purple cap in the next edition of the IPL?
At first, let’s try to take a look at the biggest contenders of the purple cap this season.
Jasprit Bumrah – Stocks of Jasprit Bumrah have risen rapidly in recent years. The Indian pace bowler is a superb death bowler and he will be bowling the most death overs for Mumbai Indians. He has superb numbers in the IPL with 82 wickets in 77 games and he could emerge as the best bowler this season.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar – Bhuvi is already a 2-time Purple Cap winner and he is one of the only 2 players in the history of IPL to do so. Bhuvi has everything in his arsenal. He can swing the new ball, can bowl pin-point yorkers and slow-balls at the death. It would be a no surprise if Bhuvneshwar Kumar wins the Purple Cap in the next edition of IPL as well.
Imran Tahir – The ever-young spinner from South Africa won the Purple Cap in 2019. He could emerge has the highest wicket-taker in the next season as well thanks to the Chennai pitches. Slow tracks of Chennai and Tahir’s skills could help the leggie in winning consecutive Purple Caps.
Dwayne Bravo – Another usual suspect in the list, Dwayne Bravo is the 2nd only player with Bhuvi to win the Purple Cap twice in the history of the tournament. Bravo’s ability to out-think and outfox the batsmen with his variations is impeccable. He would try to win Purple cap for the 3rd time this season.
Rashid Khan – Without a doubt, Khan is one of the best leg-spinners in world cricket at the moment. Khan hasn’t been able to win the Purple Cap yet but he has been in the contention strongly for the past 2-3 years now. This season he will try to get one better this season by emerging the Purple Cap winner.
Kagiso Rabada – The South African pacer has everything as a pace bowler. On his day, Rabada is the most lethal bowler to face. Rabada missed the Purple cap with a single wicket last season. If he can manage to stay fit throughout the league, then there is no denying that he could be the highest wicket-taker of the next edition.
Other than the above-mentioned bowlers, there are many other bowlers who could emerge as the strong contenders for the Purple Cap. Pat Cummins from KKR, Jaydev Unadkar from RR, R Ashwin from DC, and Deepak Chahar from CSK could surprise many. However, as per our Today Match Prediction, Jasprit Bumrah is likely to win the Purple Cap in the next edition of IPL.
