The 2021 season of Big Bash League has produced some sensational moments and on 21 January, Micheal Neser added one more special moment to this list by pulling off arguably, the catch of the tournament.
The match between Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat was a one-sided affair as the Strikers dominated the game. With 83 needed off 16 balls and only one wicket remaining, it seemed as if only formalities are left in the match.
However, Michael Neser had other ideas. On the third ball of the 18th over, Mitchell Swepson tried to slog Peter Siddle over long-off. Swepson failed to time his shot and the ball looped in the air. It looked as if the ball would land safely over the cover the region.
That’s when Neser stormed into the scene. First, he sprinted about 15 yards to get closer to the ball and had to put in a slide to reach the ball. While sliding, he put out his left hand and grabbed the ball. It was a case of pulling out a catch ‘from thin air’.

Naser’s terrific catch brought curtains on the game that was dominated by Adelaide. Batting first, Adelaide scored 197 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Alex Carey’s sensational hundred off 62 balls was the highlight of the innings.
In response, Brisbane managed only 115 runs and lost all ten wickets. Wes Agar wreaked havoc by claiming 4 wickets for 27 runs while Peter Siddle chipped in with 3 wickets as well.
This win has taken the Strikers to 4th position in the points table with 24 points while Brisbane are at 7th place with 21 points.
