India’s forgotten but talented and proven wicket keeper batsman in Dinesh Karthik was presented with a great opportunity to captain the 2 time champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2018 edition of the Indian premier league.
The wicket-keeper from Tamil Nadu grabbed the opportunity with both the hands and showed the world what he can do as a captain on the big stage. He successfully lead the team into the playoffs in his very first season as a captain.
Although he didn’t do justice in the previous edition, the KKR team management didn’t lose their faith on him and retained Dinesh Karthik as their captain for this edition as well.
A cricketer going through a dry phase without any cricket is always a difficult thing. Considering the current situation, the whole world has been advised to not come outside of their home and maintain a safe distance between each and everyone due to covid-19, any cricketer would find it difficult to not touch the bat or ball for that matter. In these tough and absorbing situations, players might tend to lose their shape and become restless but the KKR captain had other ideas.
In the new video released by the KKR’s official twitter handle, Dinesh Karthik was seen shadow practicing and meditating along with a social message to stay safe amidst the chaos.
Tamil Nadu born Dinesh Karthik who made his debut for India way back in 2004 which is 16 years ago with lots of potential and talent is one of those unluckiest cricketer to have been born in the wrong era.
An era which turned out to be the Indian world cup winning captain and India’s greatest wicket keeper of all time in MS Dhoni’s era. It was only a matter of survival for Dinesh Karthik at the highest level even after showing great consistency in the shortest format of the game.
If anything, this edition of IPL will be the last chance for DK to fall under the selector’s radar and he will be confident of having a good season for sure.
