Indians once again missed the chance to create history by a whisker as they couldn’t go past the Australian girls as the hosts were too hot for the Indian ladies at the night of the final.
Though Indian girls managed to beat the Australians in the tournament opener which no one expected it to happen but lost in the finals where it mattered the most.
Indian women’s team have made the finals of the 50 over world cup and semi finals of the previous edition of the T20 world cup but couldn’t able to place their hands on the trophy then as well.
India reached the finals of the T20 world cup without breaking any sweat. The important aspect that took everyone aback was that India were dominant without any telling contributions from two of their important stalwarts in Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur.
It was the young girls in the form of Shafali Verma, Jemimah, Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma who were carrying the Indian batting order in their shoulders which was the least expected thing for the fans.
A recent tweet by Jemimah Rodrigues was a touching one as she thanked each and every fan who supported them when they were fighting it out on the battlefield.
Though the Indian women’s team failed to win the trophy, reaching the final of an ICC tournament in itself is a achievement in its own way. The Indian girls gave everything they had in the cricket field and as a matter of fact they had even defeated the eventual champions in their tournament opener.
The kind of welcome that the Indian girls received turned out to be a disappointing one as there were no crowd gathering to welcome the girls at the Indian airport after their bittersweet world cup campaign.
