We all cherished the innumerous battles between Shane Warne and Sachin Tendulkar. We all did. Every cricket fan did. That was some era when cricket was not a luxury, but a necessity, when even the Test matches used to sell out and the ticket to those matches a souvenir now.
And that battle, between two top talents, or teams, doing everything in their capacity to come out on top, is what makes certain eras special. Tussles between Arsenal and Manchester United in the late 90s and early 2000s is a part of premier league folklore now. Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer took golf to new heights in the 60s and 70s, and in today’s context, we are lucky to witness Federer vs Nadal and Messi vs Ronaldo.
Warne versus Tendulkar was such battle where cricket touched new heights, and why not, one was spin wizard, and the other was a batting God.
One such moment was shared by a user on Twitter and Shane Warne can’t still get around the decision he got from the umpire. It was the second innings of 1st test between India and Australia in 1998, when Warne flummoxed Tendulkar, with the ball hitting his pads. Umpire Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan dismissed Warne’s appeal, but the Aussie legend still thinks that Tendulkar was out.
Warne went on to clock 708 wickets in 145 Test matches for Australia at an outstanding economy rate of 2.65. The 50-year-old also represented Australia 194 times in the 50-over cricket, taking 293 wickets. He also won the world cup in 1999 and took 12 wickets in the preliminary phase, but his most notable performance came in the semi-final match against South Africa, where he dismissed Herschelle Gibbs, Gary Kirsten, Hansie Cronje and Jacques Kallis.
