The stature of India’s vice-captain in the white-ball cricket – Rohit Sharma has grown leaps and bounds in the recent years. On his birthday 30th April, Let’s relive a Rohit Sharma’s innings where he scored 10 runs off last 2 balls against New Zealand to win the game for India.
It was the 3rd T20I of the India tour of New Zealand 2020. India won the first 2 T20Is of the 5-match series and entered the game with a purpose to seal the series. Batting first, India posted a total of 179/5 on the back of Rohit’s knock of 65 runs. Chasing the target of 180 runs, New Zealand made a fine start. However, the Kiwis stuttered during the death overs and could only manage a tie despite their captain Kane Williamson‘s knock of 95 runs.
New Zealand scored 17 runs in the Super Over and posted a target of 18 runs for India to win the game. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul came out to bat, and Tim Southee took the bowling responsibilities for the Kiwis. India didn’t have the best of the starts as the duo of Sharma and Rahul could only manage 8 runs off first 4 deliveries. India required 10 runs off last 2 deliveries with Sharma on strike. That’s where the magic happened as the Hitman hit Southee for 2 consecutive sixes in the last 2 deliveries to seal the game and series for India.
