India vs Pakistan: The arch-rivals India and Pakistan were at it again on March 30th, 2011 to reignite the biggest rivalry in the world cricket as both sides met in the sem-final of the ICC World Cup 2011. India were riding high in the confidence as they entered the semi-final by defeating the most successful team in the world cup history – Australia by 5 wickets in the quarter-final. Pakistan too, managed to sneak into the semi-final by defeating West Indies by ten wickets in the quarters. The world once again has an eye on this game as Pakistan could never manage to beat India in a world cup game ever before. Moreover, India were playing at their home at Mohali.
The Indian captain MS Dhoni won rthe toss and elected to bat first in the crucial game to put runs on the board. Explosive opener Virender Sehwag went about his business from the very first over. He hit Umar Gul for 5 fours in the 3rd over of the innings to give India a booming start. However, the opener soon returned to the pavilion off Wahab Riaz’s delivery. India lost wickets at the regular interval as only the great Sachin Tendulkar held one end courtesy 4 lifelines by Pakistan fielders. India managed to put a respectable score of 260/9 thanks to Sachin Tendulkar’s 85 runs. Pakistan, too started the chase brilliantly as they managed to score 40 runs in first 8 overs without losing a wicket. However, the stuttered in the middle as the Indian bowlers made a brilliant comeback. Only Misbah-ul-Haq played a fighting knock of 56 runs and Pakistan were bundled out for 231 runs to give India a 29-runs victory.
Fans were hoping to see India vs Pakistan in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2020. But, with the fate of the tournament hanging in the balance amid ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the fans would have to wait to see both teams in action once again.
