Former Indian captain MS Dhoni decided to call his time on International cricket, he announced the decision through an Instagram video which contained a montage of the photos of his playing career with ‘Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hun’ song in the background. As soon as the news broke out, wishes started pouring in for the legend from all parts of the world. His contemporary and former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir joined the world in wishing the veteran all the best for his new innings in life. He was involved in the Star Sports Cricket Connected special show which was telecasted as a special tribute for Dhoni, there he named one-off MS Dhoni’s many records, that he thinks that will never be broken again.
Dhoni, who broke into the international arena in 2004, had gone onto break many cricketing records in his 15-year long career. From batting to wicket-keeping, the number of records that he has in his name in International cricket is countless.
But Gautam Gambhir who has served as the deputy for MS Dhoni for a short span of time in limited-overs cricket opined that out of all these records, the one MS Dhoni record that will never ever be broken is that of his tag of being the only captain to win all the three major ICC trophies.
“One record if you talk about, which is going to stay forever is MS Dhoni’s three ICC trophies. I don’t think so any other captain would ever be able to achieve that! I think, whether it the T20 World Cup, whether it is ICC Champions Trophy or 2011 World Cup,’ Gambhir said on Star Sports’ ‘Cricket Connected’ show.
Why MS Dhoni choose 19:29 hrs for retirement announcement?
Dhoni started his captaincy career on a high leading a young Indian team to the glory in the inaugural T20 World Cup. This success story later so him lifting the 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy for India, making him the only captain in the history of cricket to win all three major ICC trophies.
Gambhir further added that Sachin’s 100 International centuries or Rohit’s 3 ODI double hundred records are breachable by the quality of cricket these days.
“I think that is something which is going to stay forever, and I can bet, that’s going to stay forever! I think 100s will eventually get broken, someone will come and probably score more double 100s than Rohit Sharma, but I don’t think so any Indian captain would be able to achieve three ICC trophies, so MS Dhoni’s going to be there to stay forever!” he added.
