England took on Pakistan for a three match test series, the first of which recently concluded in Old Trafford, Manchester. England won a tightly fought contest on the final hour of fourth day’s play. The match was played in the right spirit with both teams fighting hard on the ground to emerge victorious but there was an incident on the fourth day’s play that needed look in from match referee Chris Broad.

Stuart Broad incident with Yasir Shah
England senior pacer Stuart Broad who recently achieved a great milestone of 500 test match wickets was bowling with purpose against the Pakistani batters. He took 3 wickets in the first innings and was on his way to another 3 wicket haul in the second innings. Yasir Shah was batting for the visitors and was looking to pile up much needed runs to take the lead beyond the hosts reach.
Yasir Shah managed to frustrate the English bowlers and even tonked a huge six of the bowling of Stuart Broad. Broad was visibly upset and badly wanted to pick up the leg spinners wicket as he was already on 33 off 24. Then Stuart Broad found the edge and keeper Jos Buttler did the rest behind the wicket to dismiss the tailender. Stuart Broad didn’t hold himself behind and gave a mouthful to the dismissed batsman who could do nothing but walk away.

Broad was found to have breached article 2.5 of the code of conduct, which relates to “using language…which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his dismissal”. He was fined 15 percent of his match fee of the first test for the altercation. There is no father son match up that is going to happen because son Stuart decided not to appeal the verdict and accepted the charges of fine and demerit point slapped on him by father Chris Broad.
