Sreesanth drops easy catches says Uthappa

Sreesanth and Robin Uthappa burst onto the international scene at a similar time. Both of them have played together on several occasions and are great friends off the field as well. But recently in one of his interviews, Uthappa mentioned that Sree was known for dropping catches in the team and he was very terrified when he saw Misbah scooping the ball into his hand in the final moments of the T20 world cup in 2007.

“Misbah hit a scoop shot, and I saw it going pretty high. I noticed that it wasn’t going really far. Then I saw who the fielder at short fine-leg was, and I saw it was Sreesanth. By that point, within the team, he was known for dropping catches, especially the easiest ones. I have seen him drop absolute sitters,” Uthappa had said.

Sreesanth gives a fitting reply to Uthappa

Sreesanth didn’t take Uthappa’s comment lightly and gave a fitting reply to the Karnataka born batsman in his latest interview. Sree mentioned that Uthappa was not a great catcher of the cricket ball. He further added that Uthappa dropped many sitters while playing for Kerala in the last season.

“I don’t know how many catches Uthappa took in his overall career, he played for Kerala last season, there were many complaints that he dropped many sitters. I will soon join and play alongside him in the Kerala team; I wanted to say to him, please don’t drop catches in my bowling,” Sreesanth was quoted as saying during a Hello Live session.

He also gave a strong warning to Uthappa not to drop catches off his bowling when he returns to the domestic setup later this year. Sreesanth, who was suspended from all forms of cricket after the IPL spot-fixing incident was cleared by the BCCI to play from this September onwards when his 7-year long ban ends.

“Juniors who played alongside you last season might not have told you anything when you dropped catches, but if you drop catches off my bowling, you know what I am going to do,” he added.

He justified himself by saying that he has so far just dropped 4-5 catches in his entire international career and added the even Jhonty Rhodes would also drop catches while training.
