Former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar is one of the most fastest and dangerous bowlers to have ever played the game of cricket. Right now after retiring, he hosts a Youtube channel and comes in as an expert in various cricket shows to pass on his knowledge. Recently he did a Twitter Q and A session to interact with his fans. In that session, he was asked “who is the greatest fast bowler of the Modern Era?’. Even though the most popular and obvious choice would have been Jasprit Bumrah, Akhtar decided to go with a different name.
To the question of ‘who is the greatest fast bowler of the modern era?’ Shoaib Akhtar named the Aussie quick Mitchell Starc.
The answer is not highly surprising as he is one of the most dangerous pacers of the modern era. He was the leading wicket-taker in the 2015 and 2019 World Cup and was also the player of the tournament in the 2015 home world cup, which Australia won by defeating New Zealand in the finals. He has 252 Test wickets at an average of 26 and 184 ODI wickets at an average of 23.
Will Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill & Rishabh Pant play 3rd Test?
Even though Indian fans are disappointed over the fact that Akhtar didn’t name Jasprrit Bumrah as the greatest of the modern era. He had earlier mentioned that Bumrah is one of the most-smartest bowlers going around. He had praised his style of play and had opined that he has all those tricks in his armoury to trick the batsmen at any stage.
“Bumrah is the smartest fast bowler presently. People were doubtful about his fitness in Test cricket, even I was watching him closely. He has a quick bouncer, is deceptive and sharp and a good character this guy is”.
“Bumrah has aggression in his length, not in his body. This is how I’m going to define Bumrah. He’s the nicest guy I’ve come across. But when he comes to bowl, in those 5 seconds he showcases his aggression in his length,” the former pacer said.
