Fielding was not considered as an integral part of cricket in the olden days. But with the advent of T20 and franchise cricket around the world, each and every run saved counts more value than ever. Indian limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma who has played alongside and against some of the greatest fielders among the world picked his choice for the world’s best fielder.
The lockdown has pushed even the busiest of cricketers to the confined space behind the four walls and Rohit Sharma is no different. To spent his time and to interact with his millions of fans he decided to do an Instagram Q&A session on Sunday. He promised to answer as many questions as he could in the span of one day. One of the questions Rohit received was to name the world’s best fielder. The popular choice would have been the fan favourite Ravindra Jadeja but the ‘Hitman’ decided to name the New Zealand opening batsman Martin Guptill as the world’s best fielder. He has played alongside Guptil in the Indian Premier League for Mumbai Indians. Moreover, it was his point to point throw to dismiss the Indian veteran MS Dhoni that changed the course of the semifinal of the ICC world cup of 2019 and shifted the momentum in favour of New Zealand.

Story of Guptill
Martin Guptill, who has been a prolific run score for New Zealand has been highly underrated. With just two toes on his left foot, he has been creating magic on the cricket field. Apart from being an aggressive opening batsman, he has been a fine fielder over the years and has taken some spectacular catches in both the infield and outfield. So it’s no surprise that Rohit decided to name him as his world’s best fielder.
