Young Indian opener Prithvi Shaw has opened about the player he tries to imitate. During an Instagram Live session with Delhi Capitals, Prithvi Shaw revealed that he tries to copy the legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar. Shaw also admitted that he has been constantly under pressure due to the comparisons with Sachin Tendulkar.
While talking to his IPL franchise Delhi Capitals, the Mumbai-born cricketer said –
He has had a big influence on me. I first met him when I was eight. He always tells me to play my natural game and according to the situation. Off the field also, he asked me to stay calm.
Prithvi Shaw also recalled the advice the ‘Master-Blaster’ once gave him about his batting grip.
I am bottom-hand player and Sachin sir had asked me not to change my grip. I was young and I used to change my grip as per coaches’ advice. But after Sachin sir told me, I did not change my grip.
While talking about the constant comparisons with the legendary batsman, Prithvi Shaw said –
There is the pressure when people compare me to him. But I take it as a challenge. I try to play like him. He is the God of cricket.
Shaw spoke about various other things as well like how is he keeping himself fit during the lockdown period.
I play golf, I like table tennis and also like swimming.
Commenting on his experience of working with the former Indian skipper and current BCCI Chief Sourav Ganguly who was also the mentor of Delhi Capitals, Shaw said –
There have been experiences, to be honest and he helped a lot as he knew how to motivate youngsters in the team. It was great.
Also, Shaw named ‘Gabbar’ Shikhar Dhawan as his favourite opening partner.
