Both the teams, Wellington Firebirds and Otago Volts, are lying near the bottom side of the points table and with only a handful of matches to go, every win here is important. Wellington occupies the fifth spot with two wins from seven matches. Otago with as many wins has two no results so they are a place above Firebirds.
Otago is going through a horrible run. Their last five matches include three losses and two no results. Their last win came in the match against Wellington and now they will hope to get back on the track with a win. They will be relying on their big names like Hamish Rutherford, Anaru Kitchen, Ben Raine, Jacob Duffy and Christi Viljoen.
Wellington had begun well against Auckland in the last match with their top three nearing 30s. But the middle order fell away and they could total only 122 runs in their innings. The small total proved too little and Firebirds conceded their second consecutive loss.
