New South Wales Team News:
In the first game against Queensland, New South Wales batted well in the first innings and ended up scoring 305 for the fall of five wickets in fifty overs of play.
Jack Edwards scored a good knock of 84 while opening the innings. New South Wales allrounder Moises Henriques scored 52, followed by a valuable contribution by Nicholas Bertus who scored 69 of just 60 deliveries.
It was the bowling department which disappointed as Queensland chased down the total with five wickets to spare and two overs remaining.
Harry Conway did pick three wickets but was on the expensive side of things as he conceded 72 runs off ten overs.
Sean Abbott looked promising as he bowled with an economy under five in his ten over spell, but was able to pick just the solitary wicket.
David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith will be missing out for the first few games.
NSW Squad- Sean Abbott, Nick Bertus, Harry Conway, Jack Edwards, Mickey Edwards, Matthew Gilkes, Liam Hatcher, Moises Henriques, Daniel Hughes, Nathan McAndrew, Arjun Nair, Peter Nevill, Kurtis Patterson, Daniel Sams
Southern Australia Team News:
Southern Australia under the captaincy of Jake Lehmann put in an underwhelming performance in their first game as Queensland beat them by seven wickets.
While batting first Southern Australia could manage to score a meagre total of 226. Jake Weatherald scored 44 while opening the innings and out in a good display, but it was Tom Cooper who was most effective in the middle order.
Cooper scored 62 of 75 and was being supported by wicket-keeper batsman, Alex Carey who got his eye in but eventually got dismissed for 29.
Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa could just pick a wicket apiece and were quite expensive on the day.
Travis Head is still to announce his return to the side.
SAU Squad-Jake Lehmann (c), Wes Agar, Alex Carey, Tom Cooper, Callum Ferguson, Joe Mennie, Harry Nielsen, Lloyd Pope, Luke Robins, Alex Ross, Kane Richardson, Cameron Valente, Jake Weatherald, Adam Zampa
Top Picks:
The opening duo of Daniel Hughes and Jack Edwards ensured a fifty run stand in the first game for New South Wales and can prove to be decisive versus Southern Australia.
Moises Henriques all-round abilities, experience, and recent form make him an important cog in the wheel for New South Wales.
Spearhead pacer, Sean Abbot bowled well in the first game but wasn’t awarded enough. However, that might change against Southern Australia as their batsmen didn’t have much of a say in the previous game.
For Southern Australia, Jake Weatherald, Tom Cooper, and skipper Jake Lehmann can contribute with the bat by grinding out runs.
Alex Carey still remains the danger man and it’s a matter of time before he gets to his best in the Marsh One Day Cup.
