Kuldeep Yadav did not live up to his expectations in the IPL last year when he suffered a heavy beating against the batsmen who were reading him well. Kuldeep has now opened up about how he overcame the difficult year.

Tough 2019

Kuldeep Yadav went on to become a successful bowler, along with Chahal, making the batsmen dance to his tunes with his bag full of tricks.

The chinaman bowler made everyone believe that wrist spinners are the future and he overshadowed Ashwin and Jadeja. But 2019 was a reality check for him.

“It(2019) was a tough one. I learned a lot of things and the biggest positive was getting to know that I could have planned things better. If I thought more and gave more time to myself, I could have performed better.”

Kuldeep Yadav’s poor run of form started in the 5-match ODI series against Australia in India where India lost the series from leading the series to 2-Nil before going down to 3-2. The likes of Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja thrashed Kuldeep all around the park.

The bowler then endured a poor outing in IPL where he found difficult to contain the batsmen and as a matter of fact, he cried in the match against RCB when Moeen Ali ripped him apart. He also had a very quiet World Cup 2019 where he could not create much of an impact before getting dropped towards the end of the tournament.

Kuldeep Yadav 2.0

Kuldeep Yadav said that he has learned a lot from those difficult situations and he has now become a more matured bowler

“Now I take the help of video analysis, I also speak to the bowling coach in the nets about the strengths and weakness of various batsmen to know how he bats on the ground.

Now everyone knows how Kuldeep bowls-he is a Chinaman, who has wrong’uns, flippers. So I have to bring changes in the bowling, which the batsmen cannot figure out.”

Kuldeep said he will never give up on his attacking approach and will always look to pick wickets.

India will play their 3rd T20I against Sri Lanka today in Pune.
