India unearthed a tall and lanky race horse in 2007 from Delhi in the longest format of the game who went on to become one of the successful fast bowlers the country has ever produced in the longest format of the game.
The Delhi born lad has 420 international wickets under his name in about 191 matches across formats. Though the fast bowler hasn’t made his name as one of the successful white ball bowler, he has surely etched his name in the history of Indian cricket as a successful fast bowler in the purest format of the game in test cricket.
It is a no secret that Ishant Sharma in his initial playing days found it difficult to find his feet at the highest level. Even though the pacer had all the attributes to become the bowler that he is today, he struggled with overstepping and control.
The real beast in Ishant Sharma woke up at the Lord’s test in 2014 under the world cup winning captain MS Dhoni where he ran through the England side with a 7 fer that helped India script a famous test win in England.
Here’s what the veteran pacer who is just short of 3 test matches to complete a milestone of 100 tests had to say about the Lord’s spell
If you see the kind of performances that I am putting in recent times, those are much better spells than what I bowled to Ponting. The Lord’s spell was a much better spell
Indian’s spearhead in test matches is currently on a rehabilitation phase after getting injured during the 1st test against the Kiwis. It is also confirmed that Ishant Sharma will miss the first part of IPL which will mean that he will be terribly short of match practice ahead of the all important Australian series in December this year.
The pacer should be at his best if India are to challenge the full strength Aussies in their own backyard this time around.
