One of the main reasons why Kagiso Rabada picked 19 wickets at death in the 2019 edition was Ishant Sharma. The lanky Delhi pacer gave Shreyas Iyer control upfront with the new ball that helped Shreyas Iyer to hold back Kagiso Rabada to unleash him at the death.

Delhi Capitals suffered a huge blow at the start of the season as Ishant Sharma was ruled out of the first game and in all likelihood he might miss another 2 or 3 games as well

Management not ready to risk Ishant Sharma

Ishant Sharma is not only a pivotal bowler to Delhi Capitals but also for India in the longer format of the game. DC management have realized this and are not going to play a half-fit Ishant Sharma.
According to a report, a staff of Delhi Capitals said that,

He will ideally need a little time and may miss a game or two. We will not risk Ishant and rush him into the XI so early in the season. The games have only begun and he is a vital cog going into the middle and business end of the tournament

It is also understandable that fast bowlers tend to be stiff after a long break and especially Ishant Sharma who is coming after an injury might have experienced this issue but the staff member of DC has denied any such things. He told,

No, it has nothing to do with returning to training after the pandemic-induced break. He had been training constantly during the break so that is not the case

Ishant Sharma was assessed immediately

The DC staff also further said that Ishant Sharma was given utmost importance and the medical team assessed the veteran bowler immediately to make there is nothing precarious.

Also, injuries happen to sportspersons all the time. Even a batsman can suffer spasms while batting at the nets. He was assessed immediately by the physio and necessary measures were taken

Delhi Capitals play against Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next two games and there is no doubt that the experience of Ishant Sharma will be missed for sure.
