It has been a case of so near yet so far for Ireland in their last few white-ball games. They drew India close chasing down 226 and fell short of the target by only four runs and then stunned New Zealand with their performance in the recently concluded three-match ODI series. Literally, every match went down the wire and Ireland came close in the final game losing by just one run while chasing 361.
New Zealand, on the other hand, are playing T20Is for the first time in 2022 and have some of their first-choice players rested. They played decently in the series opener under Mitchell Santner’s captaincy to win by 31 runs. They lost their last T20I series against India by 3-0 which was played soon after the T20 World Cup 2021.
Ireland and New Zealand have faced each other only twice in the shortest format at the international level. New Zealand have won both matches.
New Zealand seem to be the strongest side among the two teams and starts as favorites to win this match and seal the series.
