Before India takes on the mighty neighbors, they make a small detour and face Ireland for two T20Is. This is the first T20I of the two-match series and India will then take on England in a three-match series.

Although India has not played any major T20I series after the Nidahas Trophy series in Sri Lanka, there is no lack of match experience since we had a grueling IPL. Every Indian player from the squad was a part of the IPL and many selections have been made on the basis of IPL performances. These include Siddarth Kaul and Umesh Yadav who bowled exceedingly well for their franchises in the IPL.

Ireland meanwhile played T20I cricket very recently. They engaged in the T20I tri-series that was played between the European nations including Netherlands and Scotland as other participants. Ireland did not do so well and languished at the bottom of the tournament. Paul Stirling was the lead run-scorer for Ireland in the tournament while George Dockrell was their best bowler.

Ireland used Porterfield and Rankin in only two out of four matches of the tri-series. With the kind of experience they possess, they are likely to be included against India. They will be replacing Shannon and Chase if included.

Andy McBrine the off-spinning all-rounder can make a comeback in the team at the expense of Stuart Poynter.

Josh Little, the 18-year old left-arm bowler is in contention too but may have to wait a little more.

IND:

India as always has the problem of plenty with so many great players around. The fight will be for the two middle-order slots with KL Rahul, Raina, M Pandey and D Karthik being the contenders. With the IPL form behind, KL Rahul is a definite starter. India will have to choose one between Raina and Karthik, a very tough choice.

Similar concerns are in the bowling department. Only one of Kuldeep, Kaul or Yadav will get to play in the team with Bhuvneshwar, Bumrah and Chahal being the favored players. With a weaker opponent in front, India will be experimenting.
