Delhi capitals finished 3rdin the previous season and its safe to say that they had a turnaround season last year. They did everything right last season starting from appointing Ricky Ponting, one of the best captains in the history of cricket as their coach and roped in Sourav Ganguly as a mentor. This season they have retained their core Indian set-up and in addition to that, they have also drafted in Ashwin and Rahane in a successful trade-off with Rajasthan and Punjab. Surprisingly, in this auction, they once again looked to bag many Batsmen and all-rounders, as there still is no able support for Rabada at the death overs. It will be interesting to see how Ricky Ponting will manage his resources.

The Sunrisers from Hyderabad had a mixed season last year after having made the playoffs with the help of Net Run rate, lost to Delhi Capitals in the eliminator. They have a strong bowling line-up but that took a beating in the last season. It was their batting duo of Bairstow and Warner who lit the IPL last year and destroyed opposition’ bowling attack at will. With Warner and Bairstow expected to be available for the whole season, a little help from bowlers would turn them into a dangerous and exciting side.

KKR finished 5th and lost the chance to make the playoffs only by an inferior NRR. They lost their way last season at the beginning but came back strong at the later part of the tournament but was not enough to make playoffs. Kings XI have announced that K L Rahul will be their captain of this season, with Rahul already carrying the burden in his shoulders in the batting department in the past 2 season for Punjab, it will be interesting to see how he handles the captaincy pressure as well. Their new head coach Anil Kumble came into the auction with certain players in mind and went all guns blazing for Maxwell and Jordan irrespective of their price. It was very clear if one had watched the Auction. This time, they seem to tick most boxes and it will be interesting to see how things pan out for them this season.

In the mid-season, they replaced their Captain and then they fared well when compared to the first half of the tournament. Now they have made Steve Smith as their full-time captain, With 4 overseas options already locked for them, they came into this auction solely with the intention of getting Raw Indian talents and some back up for the likes of Archer, Buttler, and Stokes. RCB finished in the 8thplace last season but it was only one point that was separating them and the 4th placed team in the end. It was that kind of season forRCB, they looked like they couldn’t even win a game last season at the initial stages, but they came back pretty well towards the end of the tournament but it was too late for them. This season, with shrewdest cricketing brains, have united in the form of Mike Hesson and Simon Katich, and have formed a team that is looking like a complete team at least on paper.
