IPL 2020 is slated to start at the end of March and the tentative date has been gathered from close sources.
Clashing with International Matches
As per the latest sources, IPL GC has decided to zero in on the 29th of March 2020 to start the IPL. A Delhi Capitals Official has revealed that the defending champions Mumbai will play the first match of the IPL 2020 in Wankhede stadium on the 29th of March.

If the IPL is scheduled to start on the said date, England will be playing a test series with Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka which will get over 2 days after the commencement of IPL. i.e. on 31st March, and Australia would just have ended their T20I series against New Zealand in New Zealand on the same day as the start date of IPL.
The franchises are not happy to start their IPL campaign without their first choice overseas players as most of the teams have Australia, England players as their marquee overseas players.
Franchises hoping a change in the date of commencement
If the IPL happens two days after the now said date, that is if the IPL starts on April 1st, the availability of the players will be better for the franchises and all the franchises have requested to the IPL Governing Council for a change of date so that no team will start on the back foot at the start of their campaign, which also gives the required momentum that each team will be after at the start of the season.
