The International cricket council (ICC) has given an update on the fate of the Test Championship. The outbreak of pandemic COVID-19 has caused worldwide panic and forced people to stay inside. All events across the industries have been canceled and sports including cricket is no different. While many series have already been postponed, tournaments like the Indian Premier League, ICC T20 World Cup 2020, and English cricketing summer are still waiting for the situation to get better. Amid all this chaos, The ICC has now revealed its stance on the competition’s schedule.
ICC World Test Championship started last year in 2019 Australia and England facing each other. With many tournaments being pushed ahead and the fate of ICC T20 World Cup 2020 to be decided on 29th March, it was reported that the ICC could reschedule the ICC Test Championship as well.
However, no decision has been announced yet. Although, a spokesperson of ICC has stated that the apex body of cricketing is considering every possible option for the time being. The ICC is looking at the available time slots and they would come to a conclusion soon.
As reported by Times Now, a source from ICC said –
At present, the ICC is considering the options available to us regarding the World Test Championship and no decisions have been taken.
The ICC introduced the WTC to bring more competitiveness and excitement in the longest form of cricket. At the moment, India are leading the standings with 360 points in their kitty. Until New Zealand’s tour, Virat Kohli‘s men were undefeated where they lost 2-0 to the Blackcaps. India are followed by Australia at the 2nd place by 296 points and their neighbors New Zealand are sitting at the 3rd position with 180 points.
