Lord’s the ‘Mecca’ of cricket as it is said will host the next South Group match of the English One-Day Cup which will be played between Gloucestershire and Middlesex. Both teams have made a winning start to their campaign and will look forward to do the same in this game.
Gloucestershire’s opening encounter was against Surrey whom they thwarted by 147 runs and set the early momentum in the series. On a pitch where run making wasn’t easy, Gloucestershire notched 235 on the board before being bundled out in 47.5 overs. Wicket-keeper batsmen Gareth Roderick and skipper Chris Dent were the only two batsmen to show some resilience on the wicket, while others perished on a nightmare of a surface for the batsmen.
Surrey never looked comfortable chasing as they were bundled out for a mere 88 in just 24 overs. Chris Liddle and Thomas Smith were the bowling mainstays with 3 wickets each to their name, whereas Aussie quick Daniel Worrall was the other who contributed with 2 wickets of his own.
Meanwhile, Middlesex were involved in a high scoring thriller which saw them posting a mammoth 366 for the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs batting first. Skipper Dawid Malan’s 95 was the talking point in their innings whereas George Scott and Nick Gubbins also contributed with fifties of their own.
Bowlers had to respond for Middlesex in the second innings and Nathan Sowter was up for a brilliant show as he got 6 for 62 in 9.2 overs which was crucial in the context of the game to put a break on Essex Eagles innings on 328 in 49.2 overs.
