Essex meanwhile posted 313 runs in their first innings against Somerset. Varun Chopra led from the front and scored a massive 160 on the top. He was supported by Bopara with his 73. Somerset was primarily stopped by Shane Snater as he picked up 5/60. New Zealander Neil Wagner picked up three wickets.
