India hammered Sri Lanka in the 3rd T20I and won the 3 match T20I series 2-0. Shikhar Dhawan who was struggling with his form in the shortest format scored a 36 ball 52 run knock and gave a good platform to India who was batting first.
“It’s all about a team game”, says Virat Kohli
After their comprehensive victory against the Lankans in the 3rd T20I, the Indian skipper said that he doesn’t like to compare a senior player like Dhawan to compare with a much younger Rahul as a possible partner for Rohit Sharma in the upcoming ODI series against Australia.
Virat Kohli at the post-match presentation said-
“All three openers are pretty strong players, and it’s great to have players playing well in the team. It gives you options. But I think people need to stop pitting players against each other. It’s all about a team game. I don’t endorse this idea of putting people in the team against each other”.
India will be playing their last series of this dominating home season against Australia in a 3 match ODI series starting on January 14th in Mumbai. The Indian limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma will make his return to international cricket after a tiny little break. He was given rest for the 3 matches T20I series against Sri Lanka which provided a good opportunity for the Indian management to pick a suitable partner for Rohit in the T20I format for the long run between Rahul and Dhawan. It will be interesting to see whom will be preferred as the opening partner for Rohit in the New Zealand series where India will play a 5 match T20I series in New Zealand.
