As the spread of Covid-19 is getting under control, various sporting bodies across the globe have asked their players to start training to be match fit. The England and Australian cricket board have asked their players to start their training as soon as possible. The Indian cricket board is also in line to resume practice as soon as the lockdown eases a bit. However India’s captain and limited overs vice captain Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma respectively, who are based in Mumbai might not be able to join the camp at National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru due to strict regulations in the country’s bussiness capital.
Mumbai is one of the worst effected cities in India due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Almost 27,000 confirmed cases have been recorded in the city which has caused death to over 1,000 people. The situation still continues to remain out of control in the big city.
According to cricket board treasurer Arun Dhumal, India’s premier batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli might get stranded in Mumbai, as they are planning to resume skill-based training. The board is planning to start the training in the National cricket academy in Bengaluru. The players from other less affected cities would be asked to come to the NCA.
“For players like Kohli and Rohit, the restrictions are there in Mumbai and might stay,” BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal was quoted as saying by AFP.
“As of now we are working, given the lockdown restrictions, through apps and online modes. The coaches and support staff are regularly in touch with the players
“Everybody would be keen to hit the ground and the idea is whenever we are ready for cricket to resume, they (the players) are able to give their 100 percent,” he added.
ECB optimistic
Things seems to be getting under control in Europe, various main leagues like Serie A and English Premier league have asked the teams to start training.
In England, even though the board cancelled their much anticipated tournament- ‘The Hundred’, the players will resume individual training from next week. The English board is still optimistic about hosting the West Indies for a three-Test series in July under precautionary measures.
On the other hand, West Indies being one of the less affected area, will host the first cricket tournament to be held after lockdown, The Vincy Premier League T10 tournament.
