Kapil Dev-led Indian Team’s historic 1983 World Cup triumph

The Kapil Dev-led Indian team scripted history with a miraculous win over the great West Indies side in final of the 1983 World Cup at the Lord’s cricket ground. However, not many gave India a chance to lift the title after having entered the finale as the firm underdogs. But India also made their intentions pretty clear after having defeated two-time defending champions West Indies in their first game.

India then defeated Zimbabwe before losing their way to Australia and West Indies in the league-stages of the tournament. However, after skipper Kapil Dev’s astounding knock of 175 runs against Zimbabwe, Team India refused to look back and went on to beat the likes of Australia and England to qualify for the final. In the final, they successfully defended a paltry total of 183 runs to win the World Cup trophy against the mighty West Indies.
