The southpaw from South Africa had a successful career as a cricketer. Kirsten got a chance to Coach team India in the year 2008, it turned out to be a fruitful one for Kirsten in what was his first ever coaching stint for an International team.
The South African along with the captain MS Dhoni made quite an impact. Kirsten coached India from 2008 to 2011, in that span India achieved the No:1 test ranking, won Asia cup, won the prestigious Border-Gavaskar trophy by defeating Australia which was a rarity then, and above all, under him, India won the 2011 World Cup which was the ultimate thing that fans could have asked for.
Another South African makes this list as one of the successful coaches this decade. Mickey Arthur didn’t play any international cricket but his knowledge about the game is immense.
Arthur became the coach of South Africa in the year 2005 and went on to coach them till 2010. South Africa turned into a top International side under him. The South African got an opportunity to work with Australia from mid 2010 to 2013, where Australia didn’t perform to their standards and Mickey Arthur was sacked in June 2013.
Mickey Arthur became the coach of Pakistan in 2016 and he had a golden period there. Pakistan drew the test series in England and as an Asian team to beat England in 2 of the 4 tests in England is quite an achievement. Pakistan also went on to become the No. 1 test side under him for a brief period. Pakistan started a new revolution in T20Is as they won a record 11 T20I consecutive series wins under him and went on to become the No.1 T20 side. Above all, the major highlight of his coaching Stint with Pakistan was the Champions Trophy triumph in 2017 where Pakistan came from nowhere and defeated India in the. Arthur is now the head coach for Sri Lanka.
Trevor Bayliss’ first international coaching stint with Sri Lankan earned the reputation as one of the brilliant cricket minds going around. Under him, Sri Lanka finished as the runners-up in the 2011 World Cup.
Took over as England’ coach in 2015 in probably one of the most difficult times in England cricket but he changed the mindset of England cricket. England were unbeatable at home in white-ball cricket and soon became the No.1 side in the world in one day internationals. Bayliss signed off by winning the world cup for England.
Trevor Bayliss also had a successful IPL stint with KKR , helping them to win the title twice. Currently, he is the coach of SunRisers Hyderabad.
Duncan Fletcher became the coach of the England Cricket team in 1999 and went on to coach them for 8 years. In his tenure, England won the famous 2005 Ashes series.
Fletcher became the Indian Head Coach in 2011, just after the Indian world Cup triumph and under him India achieved 8 series victory in a row, including the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. It was under him, when Rohit Sharma was promoted to open and it turned out to be decisions that changed the fortunes of India.
It is also said that Duncan Fletcher helped Kohli to tweak his batting style a bit to help him score freely on both sides of the wicket. He is surely one of the underrated coaches going around.
Mike Hesson was the coach of New Zealand from 2012 to 2018. Known as one of the calmest minds and a brilliant man-manager, Hesson helped Blackcaps to series win in England and South Africa.
Hesson had a larger vision and always looked to build the team that could serve the team for the longer run. He took New Zealand to the finals of 2015 Cricket World Cup.
New Zealand also achieved a 13-match winning streak in completed games across all formats. He is currently the director for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL.
